About Me

Hi! My Name is Fatima, but please call me Ummi. That's my informal name. My brain associates Fatima with school and work. Ummi is when I let my hair down and tell corny jokes. I'm a Neuro-Physiologist turned Pharmacist. I work full time but also do private catering gigs and food and drink consultation part time. I am a wife to this random awesome dude and a mum to the cutest baby ever. When I'm not drugging or burping or diaper changing, I love to cook. I'm a self taught cook leaning towards South Asian and Italian Cuisines. I enjoy crafts of all kind; drawing, amateur graphics design, beading, DIY beauty products, sewing, knitting. The list is endless. I also read a lot of Chick lit (Marian Keyes!) and magazines (Cosmopolitan!). I moved back to Abuja 3 years ago after having spent my teenage years and most of my adult life Down Under. Im still trying to figure out life in Nigeria and all the challenges it brings. Believe me, there are plenty!

Get to know me better!

  1. What is your favorite family vacation? Outdoorsy vacays! Theme parks, historical landmarks and lots of local food. I had that in Malaysia and Egypt
  2. What would you change about yourself if you could? I am way too trusting and I have learnt the hard way many people don't deserve my love and trust. I'd give myself the ability to be more discerning. On a less serious note, I'd give myself pus per fast metabolism! So I can eat all I want and still look like Zhang Zi Yi.
  3. What really makes you angry? Being cheated. I don't care if it's just 100naira, bloody give me my change. Then I'll decide to tip you
  4. What motivates you to work hard? My family. I have an awesome support system and I can't be more grateful. They are the reason I get up and grind.
  5. What is your favorite thing about your career? I love the lifestyle that comes with pharmacy. You get to treat people without the pressure of being a doctor. That's why I chose it. I also love playing an active role in a patients life and the relationship you develop with them.
  6. What is your biggest complaint about your job? In Nigeria pharmacists do overnight call duties (seriously WTH).
  7. What is your proudest accomplishment? My Baby! Hehe! I got my first degree at 20 so I guess that's also kinda cool.
  8. What is your child's proudest accomplishment? She's just 1 now, so I guess being a good sleeper? She learnt to sleep through the night without much effort from me and she barely cries. Very peaceful. Alhamdulillah
  9. What is your favorite book to read? I love Chick Lit books. Especially Marian Keyes.
  10. What makes you laugh the most? I've got a weird sense of humor and it's not really predictable.
  11. What was the last movie you went to? What did you think? The Hobbit. I loved it! A little sad though, with Gilly and Thorin dying.
  12. What did you want to be when you were small? I wanted to be an ice cream mogul. Hehehe! I called it Tima Twisters and I spent hours drawing and colouring ice cream, Popsicles and sundaes for it.
  13. If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?
  14. What is your favorite game or sport to watch and play? I swim. Used to swim competitively in high school.
  15. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse, or drive a car? Ride a bike.
  16. What would you sing at Karaoke night? Hehe I'm the one with the rock songs. U2, Nirvana, Nickelback, AC/DC, goo goo dolls, that's me!
  17. What two radio stations do you listen to in the car the most? Cool fm, rhythm and vision. All local Abuja stations
  18. Which would you rather do: wash dishes, mow the lawn, clean the bathroom, or vacuum the house? Vacuum the house. Less stressful
  19. If you could hire someone to help you, would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work? Cleaning and yardwork
  20. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be? Seafood platter with salad... A smoked salmon, cream cheese, red onion and capers sandwich... CIabatta! Hey, it's cruel and unusual punishment to ask a food lover to pick ONE meal. Very cruel.
